I welcome you all to our 5th Biennial Cultural Day Celebration aptly tagged “The Vibrant African Cultural Heritage”. This blest ground welcomes you all whole heartedly. Thank you for making out time to be with us despite your tight schedule.
Culture is defined as “a way of life of a group of people”. This way of life includes the behaviours, beliefs, values, systems and symbols. They are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
Culture is composed of material and non-material things. The material aspect of our culture includes things that we make and use e.g. buildings, technological gadgets, clothing, literature, arts etc. The non-material aspect includes our values, beliefs, language and others.
Cultural celebration opens our eyes to our historical existence. Our cultural heritage keeps our memories alive of how beliefs and cultural expressions have contributed to the growth of society.
Today’s event is about celebrating our culture and other cultures beyond our community and country. It is also about rediscovering our roots, as well to remind ourselves of our tangible and intangible cultural heritage that has been in existence for generations.
By celebrating the vibrant African Cultural Heritage today, we aim at appreciating the beauty embedded in the African culture and also at unifying all our values. It also aims at promoting talents, skills and ideas among the pupils. These are reflected through performances such as – fashion show, drama, poetry, traditional dance and music among others.
Let our celebration today help us to appreciate who we are and what we have as a nation and a continent.
Head Teacher, Rev. Sr. Chinyere Mogboh NES.
